Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse
Bachelor of Fine Arts Thesis. 2020
Each of the horsemen reflects a separate environmental concern in a landscape. The imagery is highly symbolic, referencing both modern and medieval concepts. Bookending these four horsemen are four smaller paintings acting as the grisaille doors to a polyptych altarpiece. They show an interpretation of the four living creatures in the book of Revelation that herald the horsemen. The format and materials (oil paint on birch panels) connects this to the altarpiece tradition in Christian art from the Northern Renaissance.
